After years of relative uninvolvement in global standard setting, China, Korea and Taiwan have awakened to the strategic importance of technology standards, Each country, and China in particular, has become very active in pursuit of alternatives to paying royalties to western companies. Our panel of experts will reviewed the history of some current Asian standards initiatives (WAPI, TD-SCDMA) and illustrated the effect of what has already occurred, and what can be expected in the future.
