Kavi operates an ISO 9001:2000-certified, climate-controlled hosting center provided by Sungard and housed in a seismically hardened facility. Robust Network Infrastructure

Completely redundant connectivity eliminates single-point failure in the network infrastructure. Each server connects to the network via distinct dual connections that run through independent switches and routers. Quality-of-Service Management

Kavi manages bandwidth usage on a per site basis. Each site has dedicated bandwidth that uses fair queuing to balance email and web traffic loads. Even during high email loads, Web traffic is unaffected and the site remains readily available.

Each Kavi-hosted site has its own Mail Transfer Agent (MTA), so email traffic is unencumbered by traffic from other sites, guaranteeing a high level of availability and responsiveness for the organization's email service. The MTA is automatically configured to block the IP addresses of known spammers and mailing list abusers.

Dedicated network resources effectively isolate each managed site from activity on other customer sites, so the organization enjoys the benefits of a reliably fast and responsive end user experience.

Failure Prevention and Disaster Recovery

All Kavi servers incorporate fault-tolerant storage, so that if a disk fails, it won't interrupt server activity. Should a production server experience hardware failure, the site can be brought back up on one of Kavi's standby production servers ensuring minimal interruption.

Kavi performs daily incremental backups of all customer content and data over a 30-day period. If data retrieval is needed, data from any given day within this 30-day period can be recovered. To enable site recovery in the event of catastrophic disaster, Kavi implements dual location data-mirroring supplemented by traditional off-site backup.

Monitoring

All Kavi-hosted websites are monitored by an automated system that checks web, mail, and application services. If a problem is encountered with any of these services, an automated notification system pages Kavi personnel, so the issue can be addressed before a user experiences any problems.

Additional monitoring is performed on server resources such as disk and RAID statuses, server processes, and memory usage. This proactive approach allows Kavi to identify potential server issues and address them before sites are affected.

Security

Physical access to Kavi's datacenter is tightly restricted: it's manned 24x7 and physical security is protected at multiple levels. Only top-level Kavi system administrators have physical access to the production servers.

Kavi operates redundant firewalls for all customer sites and filters out inappropriate Internet traffic. These firewalls limit which ports receive and send messages, and can detect and fend off denial-of-service attacks.

Kavi has instituted an automated daily OS updating procedure that guarantees all fixes for identified security vulnerabilities and are installed promptly for optimal security.

Login access is restricted, encrypted, and logged on all sites. Root access to servers is granted to a minimal set of Kavi personnel and passwords are changed on a regular basis.

Optional SSL secured Web services are available for those sites that require a higher level of security for such activities as managing billing information or collecting online payments.

Managed Software Services

Kavi has devised a software management and deployment system that allows Kavi products and third-party components of the standard platform to be readily installed and updated. Customer sites are updated in a staged process. First, the live site is recreated in a test environment; then the software is upgraded and tested on the mirror site before being “pushed” live. This same technique is used for custom projects and redesigns, so development work is conducted without any risk to the live site.

Every client’s Kavi application suite configuration is stored and managed in a centralized Configuration Manager application that drives the specific server configurations for that client.
